Police in Wigston handed over £300 to LOROS today (Monday 17th June),

Colleagues of Wigston police officer PC Phil Read, who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, held a quiz night to raise money for the charity and the local church.

Sergeant Nick Timms, PC Read’s supervisor, learned Phil had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and decided that he wanted to do something to support him.

Sergeant Timms, with the help of his wife Jane and two friends organised a quiz night in a south Leicestershire Village.

Sergeant Timms said: “The villagers were extremely supportive and had a great evening which included a fish and chip supper and a raffle. The evening raised £600 which was split between LOROS and the local church.”

Sergeant Timms and Phil, who is currently undergoing treatment, handed over £300 to Diane Morris, Fundraising Manager for LOROS.

Diane said: “We are extremely grateful to Sergeant Timms, his wife and their friends Roger and Anne for the support they have shown LOROS in organising the quiz night and to everyone who took part.

“All money raised makes such a difference to patients and their families and without this magnificent support we wouldn’t be able to raise the money that is needed to continue our valuable care.”

Anyone who would like to make a donation to LOROS can do so by calling the Fundraising Department on (0116) 2318431.

Phil, who is a long time member of the Oddfellows Brass Band, is planning a further charity event on Friday 21st June at Belvoir Castle.
