A father and son have raised more than £1, 500 for LOROS hospice by wheeling their way through Leicestershire.

Andy Williamson, 51 and his son, Tom, 18, pushed a wheelbarrow from Great Glen village green to the LOROS hospice, in Groby Road, Leicester.

The 11-mile push went through Wigston and Leicester city centre, passing a number of LOROS shops en route.

Andy said: "It went brilliantly, everything went to plan. I thought it would be nice if we raised £1,500 but we just topped that, which was brilliant."

The duo were joined by Chris Jones Snr, Chris Jones Jnr, Robert Jones and Lee Wylie.

Harborough MP Sir Edward Garnier saw the boys off.

The team managed to complete their challenge in just over five hours, which was one-and-a-half hours quicker than they expected.

Andy said: "Everyone egged each other on all of the way and we had no casualties.

"We kept on changing who was being pushed in the wheelbarrow but somebody was in there the whole time."

The challenge also promoted the fifth annual wheelbarrow race around Great Glen on August 31.
