Scheduled charity coach trips to a range of UK tourist attractions which were organised for more than 20 years by the late Joan Allen are to be continued.

After the sudden death of Harborough woman Joan (83) earlier this month, her family were left with the dilemma of what to do about her much-loved trips.

Joan organised the events from 1991 onwards and she raised more than £60,000 for Market Harborough Medical Centre, Macmillan Cancer Support nurses and county hospice charity LOROS.

As reported in the Mail on 8th August, Joan’s family expressed a desire to continue with some of the coming excursions she had worked so hard to organise. They have now decided to go ahead with the trips in her memory and to continue to help the three causes she had worked relentlessly to support.

The four trips they aim to run are to Highclere Castle in Hampshire, which appears in Downton Abbey, on Tuesday 3rd September; Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn in Kent, on Wednesday 9th October; Thursford in Norfolk on Thursday 28th November; and to Chatsworth House in Derbyshire on Thursday, 5th December.

Son Dave Allen said: “Amongst the huge amount of cards, letters and phone calls we have received, there was a common sentiment – that without her coach trips, many of those people would not have left their homes.

“We feel that we owe it to Mum and to those who relied upon her trips so much to continue her good work as best as we can.”

Those interested can get further details from the LOROS charity shop in Coventry Road, Market Harborough, or by phoning David and Helen Allen on (01858) 446662.
