More than £3,000 is expected to be raised for LOROS from a wheel barrow race held around the streets of a village.

On Saturday, eight teams of two lined up for the annual event in Great Glen.

The teams had decorated their vehicles before heading off on the mile-long circuit of the village.

The winning team of Kristian Carver and Michael Conber, who took turns at being pushed, covered the course in seven minutes.

The leading women's team was Sandie Dakin and Paula Hibbitt.

A junior race, which attracted 11 teams, was won by brothers Charlie and Edward Hawse, who covered the course around the perimeter of the village recreation ground.

Organiser Andy Williamson said: "We had a good turnout of decorated wheelbarrows, which were judged by MP Sir Edward Garnier.

"We estimate about 2,000 people came along.

"This was the largest event in the five years we have been holding it. We expect to raise at least £3,000."

He said in the four previous years, the event had raised more than £10,000 for the Leicester hospice.
