The Rotary Club of Uppingham has donated a total of £5,744 to a wide range of local and international charities over the past year.

The rotarians organised a number of successful fundraising events during the year, including a sponsored walk around Eyebrooke Reservoir, which raised £3,500, and a well attended president’s night, which raised £700. Hospice charity LOROS, which cares for people across Rutland and Leicestershire, was the main beneficiary with a donation of £2,000, while an international campaign to eradicate polio received £500. Other donations include £800 to Shelter, £250 towards the cost of a specialist wheelchair for a Rutland resident and £100 to Uppingham in Bloom.

President Keith Edwards said: “I am absolutely thrilled that we have managed to raise so much money for charity. Giving is at the heart of being a rotarian and what we have achieved would not have been possible without the support of our members. We may only be a small group but we put a lot of effort into raising money to make life easier for others less fortunate.

“I am confident that the coming year will enable us to continue both fundraising and charitable success.”
