A woman asked friends and family to help her celebrate a century by donating money to a hospice charity.

Kathleen Gretton, of Jubilee House, in Kirby Muxloe, asked for donations to give to LOROS instead of gifts when she turned 100.

Her son, Mark Gretton, 62, of Markfield, said: "Although we have had no family or friends who need their support, she requested that people donated to LOROS because she is such a keen supporter of them"

The donations for LOROS totalled more than £200.

Kathleen, who was born in the city and has lived in Leicestershire her whole life, celebrated her special day with family and friends.

Mark said: "There were people from all over – some of the people who visited her, she hadn't seen for more than 50 years.

"She's still in reasonably good health – if her body could do what her mind wanted to, we wouldn't be able to keep up with her!"

Kathleen, who is a mother-of-one, has two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
