Leading local businessmen have handed over a cheque to LOROS following a fundraising event in Leicestershire.

A group of Leicestershire based car dealers met to discuss their successes and the challenges facing the motor industry in the county and in order to help put something back into the community, agreed to contribute an amount per new car sold over a specified period. The attendees raised £800 for LOROS, the Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice.

LOROS provides specialised care for those over 18 which complex problems who are suffering from a terminal illness when cure is no longer possible.

Mr Robin Francis, former Managing Director of Francis Motor Group and spokesman for the group of dealers, said: “At a recent meeting we decided that we should all make a charity donation in order to benefit a good cause. So, all the attendees put their hands in their pockets and then selected a local charity who they would like to support.

“I’m delighted that LOROS was the local charity that was chosen and that we are able to support the excellent work that they do in the Leicestershire and Rutland areas.”

LOROS charges no fees for its services, and the charity relies upon the generosity and support of individual people, organisations and groups in order to continue offering its care services.

Laura Betts, Partnership Development Executive of LOROS, said: “We are extremely grateful to all the companies for raising such a significant sum for LOROS. Donations such as the £800 presented by the group are vital to us, so that we can continue to provide our care to local people.”

Mr. Francis added: “As well as getting together to discuss how we, as a group, can best serve the needs of Leicestershire motorists, I think our collection of businesses has an important role in supporting the local community. This donation to LOROS is just one of the many ways that local businesses can help these great organisations who do such important work in our community.”

The dealers, all local family owned businesses, were: Arthur Prince VW/Peugeot of Loughborough; Heritage Leicester; Bishop & Bishop Chevrolet; Martin Rumble Vauxhall; Farmers Skoda; Sandicliffe Motor Group; Fishers Ford of Wigston; and Sturgess Motor Group. Also contributing was Mr Robin Francis and Mr Stan Clark, both former active members of the Leicestershire Motor Industry.
