A popular charity fireworks night has been put at risk by a race track operator going into administration.

LOROS hospice has held its annual Bonfire Night celebrations at the Mallory Park circuit for the past six years.

The charity had been preparing for this year's event on Saturday, November 2, but its plans have been thrown into disarray by Mallory Park (Motorsport) Ltd (MPML) being placed into administration on Monday.

It is unclear whether the venue, in Kirkby Mallory, will be able to host the event and organisers said they were seeking an alternative location at short notice

LOROS fundraiser Laura Betts said: "We were fine until Monday. The entertainment was booked, the lighting was booked, 50,000 fliers had been printed and the volunteers were sorted.

"Then the company went into administration and the rug was pulled right out from under our feet. These are circumstances completely out of our control.

"Mallory Park used to donate the space for us but we don't know if they now can.

"If we can find another suitable place soon, we still have time to rearrange, but if we can't we may have to cancel and that would be awful."

The event has raised £30,000 over the years and is attended by about 5,000 people each year.

Laura said: "It's one of our biggest events of the year."

MPML was placed into administration following a long-running dispute over noise from the track.

Nearby residents complained the track operators were breaching a 1985 agreement on the number of noisy track days.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council successfully prosecuted the firm in August but MPML said it could not run the circuit under the 1985 terms so the administrators were appointed.
