New ultrasound machine for LOROS

News

2 Dec 2013

Thanks to generous donations of £5,000, we were able to purchase a portable ultrasound machine in December 2013 to enable patients on the ward or outpatient clinic to have a scan at LOROS rather than having to go to the hospital.

Doctors Barbara Powell and Luke Feathers underwent training and have scanned over 50 patients, identifying, for example, where it is safe to drain fluid from the abdomen or help with some other simple but important problem, like seeing if a bladder is emptying properly.

Patient feedback has been very positive, both in getting prompt treatment at the Hospice and also not needing to wait for a hospital appointment.

We are pleased that we have been able to make these small but significant improvements for patients.
