Congratulations to Rosemary Handley MBE for attaining her 30 year service badge for LOROS.
Rosemary has been involved in many aspects of fundraising, starting the Queniborough Support Group and encouraging her nieces to form a further support group in Barkby Thorpe.
Rosemary never lost the spirit of her role as a shopkeeper, volunteering in the LOROS Syston shop and even having a book sale outside her house. Many in the village will miss Rosemary’s bookcase which was re-stocked daily. She started fundraising in the early 1980s after meeting early pioneers of the charity, Ann Kind OBE and Dr Andrew Cull.
A few examples of Rosemary’s other fundraisers over the years include cake stalls, fashion shows, coffee mornings, attic sales and wrapping Christmas presents. Rosemary also encouraged villagers to open their homes for garden fêtes and cheese and wine parties and often held tea parties in her own home.
As a result of her extensive fundraising efforts for LOROS, Rosemary was awarded an MBE which was presented at Buckingham Palace at the same time as the England Rugby World Cup players.
Throughout the years, Rosemary, along with the LOROS Queniborough Support Group, has managed to raise close to £100,000 towards the work of the Hospice.
