A man whose father died at LOROS is hoping to encourage schools and businesses to take part in a fund-raising non-uniform day.

Liam O'Halloran, 50, saw first-hand the love and care given to his terminally-ill dad, Patrick, 89, who died at the hospice in October.

Liam has decided to launch a non-uniform day for businesses, schools, and other organisations to take part in by giving a £1 donation.

So far, two large supermarket chains and a major bank have said they will support the day set for later this summer, asking employees at branches to "dress down" for a donation.

Liam, a property developer from Evington, Leicester, said: "The care Dad got in his final days was beyond compare. He passed away peacefully and wasn't in any pain. The staff there were so attentive and placed a flower by him.

"They made it as easy as possible for my mum. The support she and the rest of my family received was amazing.

"They don't forget about you – there's a tree of light where you can put your loved one's name."

Liam has not set a target but is hoping thousands could be raised on the day.

He said: "It's a small donation but if enough businesses and organisations take part there's no reason why a substantial amount can't be raised. It would be amazing if it could become an annual event so I'm urging people, businesses and schools to get involved.

"Everyone knows someone who has been touched by illness or may one day need the care of the hospice so why not get involved?"

LOROS fundraising coordinator Debbie Dickman said: "We appreciate all fundraising activities in aid of enabling us to continue the specialist care that LOROS provides.

"We wish Liam every success in his campaign. It is such a great idea."
