Sisters, mothers and daughters took to the streets of Leicester on Saturday night for the LOROS Hospice Twilight Walk.

The annual 10km sponsored walk for women began and ended at the King Power Stadium.

The walkers, dressed as doctors, nurses, firefighters and policewomen to match the 999 emergency theme of the event, completed a circuit which included New Walk and Curve.

The women remembered loved ones by releasing pink, helium-filled balloons with their messages attached.

One of the participants said: “The balloon release touched me deeply and made me cry as I miss my nanny who died at LOROS.

“Being together with such fantastic ladies in this amazing event gave me hope and happiness. I look forward to taking part next year.”

Christian Weikert-Picker, the event organiser said: “The LOROS fund-raising team would like to say a big thank-you to all the ladies who took part in our Twilight Walk.

“The atmosphere was magical and as always the event was one of our best supported fund-raisers. We hope the images taken on the night will continue to spread awareness of the hospice’s work.

“We hope to raise more than £40,000 from the event, which helps us provide vital help to our terminally-ill patients and their families. We wouldn’t be able to organise this event without our great volunteers.”
