Last week we were delighted to announce the winners of the LOROS Accumulator Challenge 2014.

The challenge was successfully completed by 20 teams and together they raised an amazing £6,663 which will go towards patient care.

LOROS visited the winner of the “Most Innovative Idea” - The Plant Man – at their beautiful garden centre set in an idyllic location, surrounded by fields.

The Plant Man invested the £50 to buy a number of baby plants which they grew and sold for 50p each. Once these sold, they used the proceeds to buy young perennials, potted them into bigger pots, and sold each one for £2.50. This project has made £421 for the LOROS Accumulator Challenge 2014 and is a great example of really ‘growing’ your money.

Ian Colledge, the owner of The Plant Man said, “My partner, Anna, passed away two years ago and she was looked after by LOROS; the help she received was absolutely fantastic.

"She fought cancer for 15 years and we raised money for LOROS even when she was alive but it was done on a very informal basis. The LOROS Accumulator Challenge gave us the opportunity to organise our fundraising ideas a little better. We hope to raise more next year!”

The Plant Man surprised us yesterday by providing LOROS with an additional cheque for £600 from other fundraising activities, unrelated to the Accumulator Challenge. This was run by Sue – a member of the team. Additionally Ian gives talks related to gardening with a suggested donation to LOROS and has made £145 so far.

Magdalena Korytkowska, Partnership Development Assistant at LOROS said, “We would like to congratulate and say a big thank you to The Plant Man team who were incredible. The Accumulator Challenge slogan ‘grow the money’ was taken by them very literally, which we really loved! Their dedication to support LOROS on a daily basis is touching and very much appreciated. We feel honoured to work alongside The Plant Man and we look forward to seeing their new innovative ideas to raise money for the Hospice.”

The Plant Man team have already signed up for the LOROS Accumulator Challenge 2015. If you would like to join them please contact LOROS Fundraising on 01162318431/2 or email them here
