As you all know, local businesses have been working hard between March and June on the LOROS Accumulator Challenge. The challenge is simple enough, each team were given £50 and tasked with 'growing' the money in any way they could over a 3 month period. 20 teams proved successful and together raised the incredible sum of £6000, which is equivalent to the cost of a LOROS Community Nurse Specialist being able to visit 65 terminally ill patients in their homes in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland.

A big thank you goes out to all the teams who did their part for this fantastic cause; Affinity Asset Finance, 2 teams from British Gas, Forever Living and Pure Blessed Tarot managed to successfully double their stake, while Royal Bank Scotland raised a staggering £900. Chris Greenwell, a solicitor from Gateley, more than quadrupled his money by baking cakes, and local jewellery maker and artist Laura Millen invited children to attend her creative workshop in the run up to Father’s Day where they were able to create beautiful, homemade cards for Dad and raise over £100 for LOROS at the same time!

Local schools and colleges were keen to get involved and proved more than up to the challenge. Laura Betts, Partner Development Executive at LOROS, was particularly grateful for the efforts of local students saying, "We were overwhelmed by the creative ideas the students were able to bring to the challenge this year. We loved the fact that the Enterprise Group at William Bradford Community College engaged fellow students, the local community, and their teachers by creating a game of 'Sponge your teacher' which saw them raise over £500!"

The award for ‘Most Money Raised’ goes to the British Gas Complaints Team, while the ‘Most Innovative Idea’ award was given to The Plant Man, who invested the original £50 into baby plants which were nurtured for the cause and sold at 50p each.

Magdalena Korytkowska, Partnership Development Assistant at LOROS, said. “This year’s Accumulator Challenge was extremely successful and we are thrilled by the level of dedication shown by all of the teams. Initiatives such as The Accumulator help us to raise the £4.5 million needed annually to provide our services free of charge to our patients and their families, so every pound raised truly does make a difference.”
