Cummins Solicitors Leicester Marathon Relay

News

28 Oct 2014

The sponsor, Cummins Solicitors, encouraged teams of four to dust off their trainers and get active in the name of charity. The team relay is a part of the Leicester Marathon and over 60 teams entered this year from businesses, schools and sports clubs.

It was an early start for the runners, especially with it being a Sunday. Organisations such as Mattioli Woods, Office Depot, Bray & Bray, Spearing Waite, the NHS, St Thomas More School and Fullhurst Community College to name a few, all turned up in teams of 4 ready to run 3.25 miles each. This was all in aid of The LOROS Hospice and so far £6,500 has been donated to the charity; Cummins Solicitors hopes to make this £10,000 by the time all the sponsorship money comes in.

The relay started at 9.15am with the other 3,500 plus runners that were taking part in the half and full Marathon around the city.

Mike Cummins, MD of Cummins Solicitors and sponsor of the event said: “It was great atmosphere and all the teams enjoyed the day despite the early Sunday Morning Start. It was a great success as we had double the amount of teams taking part this year compared to 2013. I love the fact we are getting people to do something good for LOROS, a fantastic local charity, whilst also being active. I’ve heard exercise has been touted to be a cure for nearly everything in life from depression to memory loss Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson's and more so it’s great that we can positively promote this event to organisations in the city. The Winning Team was Royal Mail - they were 1st in the men's category and the team and also came 1st in the mixed relay too. The winners of the female relay team were Tudor Rose.

Alex Gamble, Partnership Development Executive at LOROS said: “It was great to see so many familiar businesses taking part this year. Cummins organised a fabulous event for the Leicestershire Community. The £6,500 that has been raised to date could pay for the cost of one of our nurses for over 9 weeks. This just shows the difference that businesses can make to our 2,500 patients and their families each year. We have to raise £4.5 million every year and we wouldn’t be able to do it without the business communities’ help, so a big thanks goes to Cummins Solicitors and for everyone taking part”
