Asda's local Community Champion raises funds for LOROS

News

Anna Gunn is the Community Life Champion at Asda on Abbey Lane and her role is to work alongside local charities and good causes, offering support, both financially and as a volunteer. She works with a variety of groups and has helped raise over £11,000 since the store opened in June 2014.

As part of the store's #makesomeonesmile, she ran an in store "guess the number of elves" competition for a chance to win a festive hamper worth more than £40. Profit from the competition would be presented to a local charity.

Anna said: "Working with LOROS Hospice added a touch of poignancy for me. My Grandfather was admitted to the LRI at the beginning of November and was diagnosed with terminal throat cancer. We were so blessed when we he was given the opportunity to stay at LOROS; sadly, he passed away on 17th December. It was through seeing, first hand, the amazing work that the staff and volunteers do at LOROS that prompted me to fundraise for the Hospice.

"The total raised by our customers was £134. I was delighted to be able to present the cheque myself and I look forward to continuing our support to LOROS in the New Year."

Adrian Walker, Senior Fundraiser at LOROS said: "Every penny raised is vitally important to us and I would like to say a very big thank you to Anna and Asda's customers for their generous donation."

"It is contributions like these that allow us to continue to provide care and support for our terminally ill patients, their families and carers"
