LOROS Hospice has appointed John Knight as its new Chief Executive during the charity’s 30th anniversary year.

Mr Knight, 51, has taken up the role this week and brings with him a wealth of experience in the care sector. He takes over from Simon Proffitt, who has decided to retire after being in charge of LOROS since 2008.

Mr Knight said: “I believe that giving people the very best in end-of-life care is really important. There is such a lovely atmosphere at LOROS. When you step over the threshold you start to get a feel for the people and the culture and the friendliness. It’s a wonderful organisation.

“I’m really excited about the opportunities that lie ahead, and to looking at our services to ensure they best fit the future needs of the community.”

For the past 14 years, Mr Knight has been Chief Executive at the Children’s Centre, an Isle of Man charity providing initiatives and services to help children make the most of their potential.

Mr Knight added: “During my time at the Children’s Centre, diversification and growth was a big part of what I achieved, with the help of a great team of people. I’ve never lacked energy or motivation and that’s what I will bring to my work at LOROS.”

Mr Knight is passionate about outdoor pursuits. He is a keen fell runner and has previously taught sailing in Sydney Harbour. He also enjoys spending time with his family and their two dogs.

Outgoing Chief Executive Simon Proffitt said: “LOROS has been such an important part of my life for many years now and I will miss the people and the atmosphere of the Hospice, which does so much good for so many people.

“I know I’m leaving the charity in good hands and that it has a bright future under John’s leadership and with the continuing marvellous support from our local community.”

LOROS is this year celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Hospice opening, with many events and fundraising initiatives planned. Visit loros.co.uk/30 to find out more and to see how you can help.
