LOROS fundraising: Boys, 4 and 3, walk 5km in memory of their mum who died of cancer

The two young children of a woman who died from cancer were among dozens taking part in a charity walk for LOROS in their mother's memory.

Ben Dolan, four and Charlie, three, of Burbage, completed the five kilometre route around Bradgate Park, in memory of their mum, Alison, 35, who lost her battle to cancer in February.

The pair were joined by their dad Rob Dolan and grandmother Linda Moss, as well as around 50 more of Ali's family and friends.

Linda, 66, of Burbage, said: "Ali would have been so proud of us all.

"I don't think she knew how loved she was."

Ali was diagnosed with breast cancer around 18 months ago.

She was treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy and was given the "all clear", Linda said.

A few months later, Ali found another lump and discovered the cancer was back and spreading fast.

"She was given one to three years, with treatment," added Linda.

"We knew she didn't have long."

The cancer soon spread to Ali's spine and then her brain.

Ali died in LOROS Hospice, a week after she had arrived there.

"We were devastated," said Linda.

"LOROS were fantastic though."

Linda said LOROS gave her and Rob a room to stay in overnight, during Ali's time there.

"I really can't fault them," she added.

"They looked after us just as much as they did Ali.

"Plus, they give us on-going support now. It's definitely helped us, knowing there's support there."

Linda said she and Ali's family wanted to "give something back to LOROS".

As well as the walk in Leicester, Ali's family and friends around the country also organised fundraising walks to take place over the weekend too.

Her brother, in Newquay, family in Northampton and her best friend in London, all took part in their own events in memory of Ali.

"Not only were we raising money but it was also our way of remembering Ali," said Linda.

So far, around £5,000 has been raised for LOROS by Ali's family and friends. That includes £2000 which was raised by Ali's work before she died, with the aim of sending her on a 'family holiday'.
