LOROS Hospice are appealing to find the owner of a balloon which was released at their annual Twilight Walk on Saturday, only to be discovered in Denmark the next day.
The pink balloon was released by a participant, as part of the balloon release which takes place at the start of each Twilight Walk, and was attended by more than 1,000 women this year.
The walkers each tie a tag to their balloon, with a special message on – usually in memory of somebody – before releasing them from the King Power Stadium, in Leicester, where the event starts.
So it came as quite a surprise when we discovered a balloon had landed in a garden in Denmark the very next day.
A man called Birger Jensen, who lives in Koge, Denmark, posted a picture of the balloon on Facebook on Sunday.
He said: “Hello, I found this balloon in my garden today, you can see it comes from a hospice in Leicester England.”
More than 21,000 people have shared the post after he encouraged fellow Facebook users to help him locate the sender.
The tag attached to the balloon said: ‘Poppa Pratt. Forever in our hearts, I’ll never forget you and your courage. Love you.”
According to another Facebook post, Mr Jenson even contacted a local radio station in Denmark known as P4 Copenhagen, in hope of finding the person who sent the balloon.
LOROS Hospice have attempted to contact Mr Jenson over Facebook but are still awaiting a reply.
Following this, LOROS launched an appeal via their social media websites, including Facebook and Twitter, in hope of finding the sender.
Their Facebook post, which has been seen by more than 24,000 people said: “We want to find the owner of this balloon – it was released at the beginning of our Twilight Walk on Saturday and has blown all the way to Denmark.
“Is it yours? If so, please get in touch – we would love to hear from you.”
LOROS Twilight Walk event co-ordinator Laura Fitzsawyer, said: “Everyone here at LOROS Hospice was extremely surprised and excited to hear that several of the balloons from our Twilight Walk had arrived in Denmark within such a short amount of time.
“The balloon release is extra special to us and means a lot to those participating, as people can write a personal message on the tags attached to the balloons before letting them go.
“We are all eager to find out who ‘Poppa Pratt’ is and we have launched a social media campaign in an attempt to trace down the person who released the balloon.
“It’s very exciting.”
