Two dozen hospital staff, friends and family are pulling on their trekking boots and taking to the hills in memory of a colleague.

The team from University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust has planned a trek on Snowdon, in Wales, tomorrow.

The colleagues are raising money in tribute to Rosie Westell, a pharmacy assistant at the trust.

She was 59 when she died last year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Each member of the team is hoping to raise at least £200 and all the money will go to LOROS hospice.

Colleague and friend Caroline Anderson, a medicines management assistant at Glenfield Hospital, has already raised more than £500.

She said: "I had known Rosie for years, since I was about 10, and although we worked in different places we had always kept in touch.

"Rosie had three daughters, Kelly, Samantha and Vicky, and six grandchildren, whom she worshipped.

"One of her grand-daughters was named Summer Rose in her memory as she was born after Rosie died.

"We wanted to do something in memory of Rosie.

"We were going to do the LOROS twilight walk but then someone mentioned this Snowdon trek and we decided to go for that. It is about 10 miles and we will be climbing about 3,000ft.

"I have done quite a lot of walking. My dogs have had a lot of exercise preparing for the walk."

Most of the team are from the pharmacy department at Glenfield Hospital.

They will be joined by a member of Rosie's family, along with a few husbands.

Caroline said: "Rosie was a great friend and colleague and always very jovial.

"She used to hate being called Rosemarie – she was always Rosie.

"It came as a real shock when she was diagnosed."

Alison Peel, a pharmacy technician at Glenfield said: "We are hoping to raise at least £200 each so it should be a good amount for LOROS.

"The pharmacy staff had a cake sale last month in aid of LOROS and raised £41 in memory of Rosie."
