Fund-raisers dashed round Abbey Park dressed as superheroes in aid of three charities.

Runners in capes, masks and pants over their trousers made their way around the 5km circuit on Sunday morning and snaked their way through the city centre park.

People were raising money for three Leicestershire charities, Charity Link, LOROS and Twenty Twenty.

Batwomen, Supermen, Wonderwomen and Ninja Turtles, among others, raised more than £2,000 for the organisations, as well as cash for their own charities.

Organiser Peter Dorans, president of Leicester De Montfort Rotary Club, said: “From an organisational point of view it went very well. I'm very pleased.

“We had lots of participants – people of all ages – and it was nice to see so many children taking part.

“We also had the best-dressed dog competition, and as it happens my dog won.

“She was dressed as Underdog with a cape.

“It's the second year we've held this event and we're hoping to make it even bigger next year."

The event was jointly organised by the Rotary Clubs of Leicester, Leicester De Montfort, Leicester Novus and Rotaract.

All the cash raised through entry fees will go towards helping Charity Link, which supports people in poverty, hardship or crisis; the LOROS Hospice which provides free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill adult patients, their family & carers and Twenty Twenty, which supports disadvantaged and disengaged young people.
