Two years ago, Mala Rathod, caseworker in Customer Team 8, at the Land Registry office in Leicester, approached LOROS regarding their new donation stations. Mala was very enthusiastic about the idea and so sure that it could work well at their offices that she decided to take two; she was proved right- the stations are still as popular two years on and we are delighted to announce that LOROS has so far raised in excess of £12,000 from their donations.

To celebrate this staggering achievement Mala, along with several of the staff from the Land Registry office, were recently invited to LOROS to receive a thank you certificate and take a guided tour of the Hospice to see how their donations help .

Mala said: "We have had the LOROS donation stations at our office for 2 years now and it has provided us with an easy & convenient way of raising money for charity.

"The concept is very simple; members of staff are able to bring in bags filled with good quality unwanted items and place the bags into the donation stations at work. It saves time making trips to charity shops or recycling banks, the staff just bring bags in on their way to work as and when they like. The initiative works well because it involves very little overseeing and it’s easy to arrange a collection once the stations are full by calling or emailing a named contact at LOROS.

"It’s been a great way for us to get involved with the charity and we feel very proud when we hear how much we’ve raised through our donations."

Elaine Godber, Corporate and Community Relations Co-ordinator at the Hospice added: "LOROS took the initiative to go into partnership with businesses, schools and community groups over two years ago. We wanted to encourage people to donate their unwanted clothes, books, toys and other items by siting a LOROS Donation Station at peoples places of work.

"It has been brilliant working alongside Mala and her colleagues who have been so generous in their donations, many of which have been gift aided too and so increasing the value at no cost to them.

"The £12,000 they have raised so far could pay for the running of the charity for more than 12 hours or for 80 patients to attend our day therapy service. Thank you so much to Mala and her colleagues for their continued support of LOROS and especially by way of the LOROS Donation Stations."

Did you know that every year in the UK 1.2 million tonnes of clothing end up in a landfill? The Land Registry staff are doing their part for recycling and charity - are you?

Would you like to contribute to your school, group or company's wider corporate social responsibility by showing a real commitment to recycling whilst at the same time helping us to provide free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill adult patients, their family and carers?
