Susan Merry, who adores metal detecting, has recently written an article about her adventures and finds for the Treasure Hunting Magazine She requested that any payment received for her article should be made payable to LOROS.

Susan, who now lives in Surrey, undertook the long round trip so that she could personally present the cheque she received, in memory of her mother, Doris and sister, Anne, who were both in-patients at the Hospice.

Susan said: "Even though I have only been detecting for a few years, I have been lucky enough to find my first piece of 'Treasure', a beautiful silver ring that was originally gilded with gold.

"It was an emotional find for me, and was one of those moments that I wished I could share with my beloved mother who I lost to cancer a few years ago. I would love to think that she would be so proud of me that I had found a beautiful piece of history and achieved something in my life.

"Thankfully, my best friend and detecting buddy was there to help me clean the find after I had finished dancing in the field - and then to help wipe away my tears."

Diane Morris, Fundraising Manager at LOROS said: "I was delighted to welcome Susan to the Hospice and to accept her cheque in memory of her mother and sister. It was such a long trip for her to make and we are humbled that she holds the Hospice in such esteem.

"We remember Susan’s sister, Anne, particularly well - when she was a patient in 2011 she became the face of the LOROS "Walk on the Wildside" campaign.

"A big thank you from everyone at LOROS"
