A recent 'big bike ride' organised by all the Sainsbury’s shops in the area raised funds for their local charities.
The Queens Road Local shop in Leicester have selected LOROS as their Charity of the Year (COTY) so they were cycling to raise funds for the Hospice.
Selina Morgan, the shop manager, said: "What a fantastic day and opportunity to work with our local charity of the year LOROS.
"The day started very early for Phil and myself but we were both very excited to meet John Knight, LOROS Chief Executive, who was going to join us for the day. We took a mini bus to the start location of Sleaford and then it began…
"The weather was stunning and conditions were perfect for the ride ahead. It was very challenging for me as I'm not a seasoned rider but John was fantastic and supported me all the way through - even giving me a push up some of the large hills.
"There were times when I wanted to give up, but both John and Phil were very motivating and got me through a massive 68.9 miles"
"Phil went on to complete a mega 85 miles!!! We both felt very uncomfortable the next day but the pain was worth it with the money we raised.
"Both I and Phil would like to say a very BIG thank you to John for his support and involvement in the day."
The store was also host to a LOROS stall manned by the LOROS Community & Challenge Events team, Adrian Walker and Andrew Ward, and volunteer, Richard, who was promoting and selling LOROS scratch cards.
Magdalena Korytkowska, Fundraising Co-ordinator at LOROS said: "We would like to say a huge thank you to the Sainsbury's team who have taken their COTY fundraising to their hearts.
"They presented our Chief Executive with a cheque for £515 on the day - this could pay for one of our Community Nurse Specialists to visit five patient in their own home, providing free care and support to patients and their family members - that is an amazing achievement!"
