The Whetsone weight loss class, one of several run by Weight Watchers leader extraordinaire Sue Wilkes, recently presented LOROS Ambassador, Imogen Cox, with a cheque for £1505.79.
To raise the cash, Sue, along with friends and family asked the group to donate unwanted clothes. She then opened her home for an entire day to sell them to raise money for LOROS. Every room of the house was full of all types of clothing which Sue and her helpers tirelessly washed, ironed, sorted and put on hangers so that it was easy to see what was on sale.
Friends and family baked cakes and savouries (some Weight Watchers friendly and some less so!) and there were endless cups of tea and coffee.
Not content with the amount made on that day, Sue then got up at the crack of dawn a few weeks later and had a car boot sale to sell even more of the clothes. Anything unsold after that went to various LOROS shops to be sold on, so no item of clothing was wasted!
Sue said: "We had a great day and our meeting members loved that not only were they fund raising for a worthy cause, but were also able to grab some great bargains to increase their wardrobes whilst losing weight. It's something that we are definitely going to repeat in the future.
"Lots of the ladies and gentlemen in our meetings have a personal connection with LOROS and understand the importance of raising funds for this fabulous organisation”.
Adrian Walker, Community & Challenge Events Lead at LOROS added: "What a great and novel way to raise funds for the Hospice - it's a win/win for everyone concerned.
"We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got behind Sue to make this such a successful fundraising event and especially to Sue herself for organising the whole thing and allowing everyone to use her home for the day.
"The money raised could contribute to the running of the day therapy service for a whole day so thank you again - your efforts truly do make a difference."
