LOROS Hospice opened their doors on Saturday, in hope of encouraging more people to give up their time and join their volunteering team.

Dozens of people took advantage of the day, as they visited the Groby Road Hospice and explored the different ways in which they could get involved.

From volunteering as part of the administration team, with the complementary therapy staff or day therapy, there really was a job showcased for everyone.

Alt textKatie Bedder, 19, of Melton Mowbray who visited the open day, said: “It was really useful.

“We received a lot of information about volunteering, and were given a good overview about what the Hospice offers.

“I put my name down to help in day therapy, so hopefully I’ll become a LOROS volunteer soon.”

LOROS Home Visiting Manager Andrew Lowden said: “The day was a great success.

“We just wanted to get as many people through our doors, so they could see what a difference they could make by giving up some of their spare time to help out at LOROS.

“There are so many great opportunities to volunteer here, whether that is in the community in lotteries, home visiting, in one of our shops or at our fundraising events.

“Hopefully we helped people see there really is something for everyone.”

Volunteers play such a huge part in enabling LOROS to continue caring and supporting terminally ill adults, with more than 1,000 people already giving up their time for LOROS each year.

Community Fundraiser Debbie Dickman said: “It was really great to see some of our regular supporters who have raised money for us wanting to get involved and volunteer.

“I’m already looking forward to the next volunteer open day at LOROS, it gave us the time and space to really talk to people and showcase the opportunities available.”
