Patients, volunteers and staff at LOROS Hospice have been busy preparing for a day of ‘backing the blues’ this Friday.
From creating blue artwork, to turning the entrance of the Hospice blue, the team at LOROS are showing their support for Leicester City, as they continue fighting for the Premiership title.
LOROS is among a number of organisations and businesses across the city and county who will be getting behind the Foxes, as part of the ‘Backing the Blues’ campaign launched by Leicester Mercury and BBC Radio Leicester.
LOROS CEO John Knight said: “Support really does work both ways and I believe that the sense of purpose, focus and dedication that we have at LOROS is mirrored by Leicester City, especially this season.
“I am delighted that as a Hospice, we are backing the blues this Friday.”
Over the past two weeks, patients in LOROS Day therapy have been busy creating a giant ‘LCFC’ out of their blue handprints and good luck messages, which will be displayed on Friday.
Throughout the day, a blue-themed sweet stall will be in the social area, the Hospice will be decorated with blue balloons and the EAGA Gospel Choir will be entertaining patients, visitors and staff with a selection of songs, complete with a special Leicester City themed tune.
Fundraising Co-Ordinator Dave Nicklin said: “As soon as we heard of the campaign backing Leicester City, we knew we wanted to be part of it.
“This is such an exciting time for everyone in Leicester and Leicestershire, whether you like football or not, everyone is getting behind our boys.
“It’s times like this that the community spirit within Leicestershire is really noticeable, with so many individuals, businesses and organisations, like LOROS, coming together to back the blues this Friday.”
LOROS Patron and Leicester City Ambassador Alan ‘The Birch’ Birchenall will be paying the Hospice a visit, to join in the fun on what will be a busy few days for him and the club.
“Leicester City and The Birch have always shown us such great support and joining in with this campaign is our way of showing how much that means to us,” added Dave.
“The Birch visits patients and staff at LOROS whenever he can and we are so grateful to him for that, so this is our way of saying thank you, we support you and the boys at the club too.”
The entrance of the Hospice will also be lit up in blue throughout the day, while all staff members are being encouraged to wear blue to work.
An ‘I’m Backing The Blues’ poster has also been created by the Hospice, which is available for members of the public to take and put up in their homes.
The free posters, are available in all LOROS shops and from the Hospice reception itself, or can be found on our website by visiting: loros.co.uk/backingtheblues
