On Wednesday 25th April, 24 colleagues from British Gas, Aylestone Road and seven pupils from Beaumont Leys School joined forces to improve some of the outdoor social areas for the patients and staff at the Hospice.

Magdalena Korytkowska, Corporate Fundraising Co-ordinator at LOROS said: "The volunteers have done an amazing job of sanding, varnishing and painting garden furniture and decking.

"Thanks to them, our patients now have somewhere pleasant to sit where they can enjoy the garden, watch the wildlife, read their book or just relax and take in the lovely surroundings.”

One of the volunteers, Peter Ward from British Gas, said: “I have lived in Leicester all of my life and have been aware of LOROS for many years. However, until last week, the particulars of how and what they did was relatively unknown to me; especially in terms of how the vast majority of the funding has to be raised by voluntary income.

"I was quite moved by my visit to LOROS, so I would like to try to raise some funds for them. I have decided to do this by selling samosas at the Aylestone Road site. These have proved popular in the past, raising money for various worthy causes.

"I am hoping that the sale will be a big success, and I anticipate hosting more of them throughout the year.”

Employee volunteering is a wonderful way of making a difference and at the same time boosting your Corporate Social Responsibility credentials.

Our Corporate Volunteering Opportunity list contains a variety of tasks, from helping us before or at our events, through to bag packing at retailers, helping in one of 28 LOROS shops, sorting donations of clothes and other items at our warehouse in Glenfield as well as maintenance projects at the Hospice.
