Dying Matters Awareness Week 2016

What do you want to do before you die? LOROS Hospice will be asking that very question as they tour Leicester and Leicestershire with their ‘Before I die’ cube.

As part of the national campaign, Dying Matters Awareness Week, LOROS will be taking to the city and county with a ‘Before I Die’ cube asking people what is on their bucket list.

With the theme for this year’s awareness week being ‘The Big Conversation’, the chalkboard encourages people to talk about dying in a more light-hearted way.

LOROS Practice Educator Maggie Fay said: “If people in Britain felt more comfortable discussing dying, death and bereavement it would be easier to have our end of life wishes met.

“The ‘Before I Die’ cube encourages the public to think about what they want to do before they die and really does help kick-start the ‘big conversation’.”

There will be a cube located at LOROS throughout the entire week, with another heading to Melton Mowbray on Tuesday, Market Harborough on Wednesday, De Montfort University on Thursday, Uppingham on Friday and Curve, in Leicester on Saturday.

“The team at LOROS are thrilled to be able to take the cube around Leicester and Leicestershire,” added Maggie.

“We want to get as many people writing on the cube as possible; we’re looking forward to seeing the different things people want to do before they die.”

Also during the week, LOROS will be publishing their ‘D Word’ series, which includes a number of blog-style articles written by patients or family members who have been comfortable speaking about dying.

The first part of the series can be found in Saturday’s MORE Mercury, with the others to follow daily on the LOROS website and social media pages.

The week is part of the Hospice’s month-long Will Writing Month, which offers free will-writing advice from some of Leicester’s top solicitors.

On Thursday 12th May, two free Will writing seminars will be taking place, hosted by Leicester based solicitors, Dodds, at LOROS Hospice.

Both seminars, called ‘The Big Conversation’ will be taking place on Thursday 12th May at 11am and 6pm.

The seminars will give people both legal advice about when a loved one dies, as well as informing them of the services the Hospice provides.
