An annual table tennis tournament held by HSBC has again raised thousands of pounds for Leicester's LOROS hospice.

Sixteen business teams took part in the event, held over four weeks this summer, raising £2,500 for the Groby Road hospice.

It was the seventh annual tournament, organised by Graham Brown, relationship director at HSBC Bank plc Corporate.

Roger Pratt, HSBC area corporate director, East Midlands, said: 'We were delighted at the turn-out of our seventh annual HSBC Professionals Table Tennis event, which welcomed 16 of Leicester's leading professional services firms.

"The £20,000 raised during the event will help LOROS continue to provide care and support to terminally ill adult patients, their family and carers in Leicestershire."

The amount raised over the past seven years by HSBC Corporate is enough to pay for one specialist nurse to look after the patients on the LOROS in-patient ward for nearly 30 weeks.

This year's competing teams were Grant Thornton, Magma, Nelsons, HSBC Business Banking, Torr Waterfield, McIntrye Hudson, RSM, Edward Hands and Lewis, Howes Percival, BDO, Weightmans, HSBC Corporate Banking, Spearing Waite, Newby Castleman, Mazars, and Gateley.

Grant Thornton were this year's winners and Gateley won the Wooden Spoon.

Laura Betts, events lead at LOROS, said: "The HSBC Table Tennis tournament is a fantastic fundraiser – 'fun' being the key part of it.

"Graham has created something quite unique here and something that so many organisations and businesses want to be a part of each year.

"The competitive nature seems to increase annually and appears to be as a direct result of Graham's witty weekly summary reports distributed to all of the competitors via e-mail the day after each competition.

"I think the free pizza and beer provided by HSBC may also be a bit of a draw.

"LOROS are delighted to be part of such a fantastic event."
