For the first time ever, LOROS has teamed up with Hospices from across the East Midlands to produce an animated video created to dispel the myths surrounding the work they do.
Eight organisations from the region have come together to create the 90-second clip, entitled ‘The Elephant in the Room’, which will be released today, to mark the start of this year’s national Hospice Care Week.
The film addresses the subject of dying while raising awareness of Hospice care, with the ‘elephant in the room’ being anything the viewer wants it to be, depending on what subject they might be struggling to talk about.
Speaking about the project, LOROS CEO John Knight said: “We are so excited to be working together with fellow Hospices from across the East Midlands, to produce such a powerful and effective animation.
“When a person is told they are terminally ill, all sorts of thoughts go through their head but sometimes go unspoken and this forms an ‘elephant in the room’.
“We hope that people, whether they are patients, family members or carers, will be able to relate to the animation and feel more comfortable about coming to their local Hospice.”
The East Midlands Hospice Group includes Ashgate Hospice Care, Blythe House Hospice, Beaumond House Hospice, Dove Cottage Day Hospice, Nottinghamshire Hospice, St Barnabas Hospice and Treetops Hospice Care.
“This is such a fantastic opportunity for LOROS and other Hospices in the region to work together to shout about the work we do,” added John.
“Ultimately, we all have the same priority and that’s caring and supporting terminally ill people, their families and carers as best as we possibly can.”
Collectively, the eight hospices care for more than 13,000 people and together, they need to raise more than £35 million every single year.
Chairman of the group, CEO of Treetops, in Derby, George Cameron said: “Hospices are here to help patients come to terms with their fears, while dispelling any concerns they have which might have formed the ‘elephant’ in their own lives.
“Together with hospice support, those affected by a life-limiting illness can deal with the unknown.”
The Elephant in the Room will be released at 9am today and can be viewed by visiting mylocalhospice.co.uk
