Community carol singing sessions in pubs and cafes around the borough will raise money for LOROS in memory of a musician who used to take part.
Trombonist Brian Mason, 80, from Sapcote, a member of the Fosse Brass Ensemble and formerly of Burbage Silver Band, died in October, two years after developing prostate cancer.
In Christmasses past, he supported his sons, fellow trombonist Jonathan and euphonium player Rob, also from Sapcote, in leading sing-along sessions in pubs around the area.
This year, the events will include collections for Leicestershire’s hospice service.
Jonathan said: “All the events are free of charge and are simply done to bring Christmas joy, music, and festive cheer to everyone.
“We play for beer - or coffee in the case of Acorns - and some of the pubs also put on free mince pies.
“We’ve never taken a collecting tin around before but this year we will break this tradition and be collecting money, if anyone wishes to give any, for LOROS in memory and honour of my late father, Brian Mason, who was instrumental in setting up these wonderful events.”
