A record amount of women have signed up for this year’s Twilight Walk since the beginning of January.

Nearly 1000 women have signed up for the 10km walk in just one month, which is a record in such a short space of time, for the Hospice.

The annual walk, which snakes around the city centre, has a theme of myths and magic and has raised more than £250,000 since it first launched in 2010.

LOROS Fundraising Co-ordinator Laura Fitzsawyer, said: “I’m overwhelmed to see that we’ve already had such a fantastic response to this year’s Twilight Walk.

“Last year, we had a total of around 1,050 walkers and to be so close to this after just one month is incredible.

“We promised that this year, the event would be bigger and better than ever and looking at sign-ups, it’s going to be just that.

“We’re hoping the sign-up rate continues over the next couple of months, which will mean this will be the most successful Twilight Walk to date.”

Starting and ending at Leicester City’s King Power stadium, the army of women walk a total of 10km, through the city, in fancy dress.

Speaking about last year’s event, Gaynor Adcock, who took part in memory of her dad, Roger, said: “There was a big group of us that took part, we had such good fun and raised a lot of money for a local and good cause.”

Gaynor, 50, of Evington took part in the walk with six other people and in total, they managed to raise nearly £1,200 for the Hospice.

“My advice to anyone taking part this year would be to involve as many people as possible; the more the merrier, plus, you raise more money,” she added.

Each year, moments before the walk starts, each participant is given the opportunity to release a pink balloon in memory of a loved one.

“We were all able to write a different special message on our balloon tags in memory of dad, which was a lovely touch,” said Gaynor.

Sign-up for this year’s Twilight Walk, which takes place on Saturday 8th April and costs £12 per person.
