£10,000 up for grabs in this year’s LOROS Bonanza Raffle as last year’s winners reveal how they are spending money on dream holiday

As this year’s LOROS Bonanza Raffle launches, a lucky couple who won £10,000 in the Christmas Raffle have told how they plan on treating themselves to a dream holiday to Canada.

Paul and Linda Giles, of Lutterworth, won the grand prize in last year’s Christmas Raffle and have chosen to share their experience to help launch this year’s Bonanza Raffle.

The couple, who are both retired, said it was a ‘real shock’ when LOROS Lottery Manager Liz Singleton called them to tell them the good news.

“When Liz called, our initial reaction was that we owe money, we had completely forgotten about playing the Christmas Raffle,” said Linda, who has also been playing the LOROS Lottery with Paul, for the past 14 years.

“We saw buying a raffle ticket as a donation to LOROS, we never had any intention of actually winning.

“We are both extremely interested in wildlife, so we plan on putting the money towards a really nice holiday to visit Churchill, a town on Hudson Bay, in Canada, where we will be able to see the local polar bear population.”

Paul and Linda, who ran Oxford Street Antiques Centre, in Leicester for 20 years before they retired, said they are keen to support LOROS as it is a ‘local charity which cares for local people’.

“Playing the LOROS Lottery means that we are regularly giving to the Hospice and we play both of their annual raffles too,” added Linda.

“We will of course still play this year’s Bonanza Raffle and we look forward to our tickets coming through the post.”

Tickets for this year’s Bonanza Raffle are now on sale, with the first prize being £10,000 or the winner can choose to have the money paid directly into their bank account in four quarterly installments.

Lottery Manager Liz Singleton said: “Our bi-annual raffles make such a massive difference to what LOROS can do for our patients, both at the Hospice and out in the community.

“Of course, they also give supporters the chance to win some fabulous prizes while making a valuable contribution to our charity.”

Last year, both raffles raised more than £200,000 for LOROS, which covers the cost of running one bed on the inpatient ward for a whole year.

To play this year’s Bonanza Raffle and be in with the chance of winning £10,000, just like Paul and Linda did, visit: loros.co.uk/raffle or call: (0116) 231 8430.

Alternatively, you can buy your tickets from any of our 28 LOROS shops or the Hospice itself.

The raffle closes on 13th May, with the draw taking place on 24th May.
