A terminally ill mother who is currently on the LOROS ward has told how “perfect” her daughter’s wedding was, a day that she did not think she would be alive to see.

Ann Checketts, 67, of Shepshed, fulfilled her wish of seeing daughter Katie, tie the knot on Saturday, just months after her cancer took a dramatic turn for the worse.

Katie, 28, and her husband, Edward, got married in St Mary’s, in Loughborough, just two weeks after a blessing was held at LOROS Hospice,a ceremony held because Ann feared she would be too poorly to see the couple wed.

“I feel as though I’ve been pampered so much over the past few weeks, I just can’t believe what’s happened, it’s been a complete whirlwind,” said Ann, who was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer in 2013.

“Seeing your daughter get married is one of those days you look forward to so much.

“Katie such a wonderful daughter and I am so proud of her.”

Quick-thinking bride Katie managed to plan the blessing in just less than two weeks, with full-planning for the church ceremony taking just under a month to arrange.

“I can’t thank the staff at LOROS enough, for everything they’ve done. They are all so wonderful and supportive,” added Ann.

“Ever since Saturday, everybody has been asking me about how the day went.”

Katie’s father, 69-year-old George, said: “We said to Ann some while ago that we didn’t want Katie to get married without her being there to see it and not only has she seen the blessing, which was plan B, she’s seen plan A as well.

“I can’t believe it, Ann spent whole day celebrating on Saturday, not only the service, she was able to see the reception as well.”

Ann wore a blue outfit, which was chosen especially for the day by Katie, who is a teacher at Hugglescote Primary School, in Coalville.

“She’s a very determined lady. She wanted to see it, she wanted to get there and she did,” said Katie.
