Nearly £90,000 has been raised in this year’s LOROS Bonanza Raffle, which is enough to pay for the care of 13 inpatients on the Hospice ward.
The draw for the raffle took place on Wednesday (24th May), with the first prize winner claiming a huge £10,000.
The family of former LOROS patient, Brian Mason attended the draw and helped pick out the winning ticket.
Jonathan Mason, of Sapcote said: “What a terrific amount of money raised, or ‘splendid’ rather, which is what dad would have said.
“It has been fantastic for us to be able to share our story to help raise such a huge amount of money for the Hospice that cared for dad.”
Great-grandfather Brian, 80, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014; he spent a short time at LOROS and sadly died late last year.
The draw took place in the Hospice’s social area, attended by staff and volunteers all eagerly waiting to find out who had won the grand prize.
“We were delighted to help and give something back to the organisation by supporting the raffle and helping out at the prize draw,” added Jonathan.
“On an individual and family level, this was all about thanking the whole LOROS team for the work they do.
“While no one organisation can change the world globally, LOROS certainly changes the world for many individuals and their families.”
The winner of this year’s raffle, who lives in London, scooped up £10,000. A second prize of £500 was also up for grabs, as well as a £250 third prize, while five runners up also claimed £50 each.
LOROS Lottery Manager Liz Singleton said: “As always, we are totally overwhelmed with the amount raised in this year’s Bonanza Raffle.
“It was lovely to have Brian’s family at the draw and we cannot thank them enough for supporting this year’s raffle.
“Hearing first-hand from a family who have experienced LOROS really does make all the difference when it comes to promoting our raffle.”
