It has recently been confirmed that a musical hosted by the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Jennifer, Lady Gretton raised more than £6,000 for charity.
In October, a show called ‘Happy and Glorious’ was performed at Leicester’s Curve, to commemorate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty, The Queen.
The concert, which was organised by Applause, in association with BBC Radio Leicester and Curve raised a huge £6,200, half of which was donated to LOROS.
Dave Andrews of Applause said: “Applause, of which Lady Gretton is Honorary President, aims to raise funds for local charities and to promote the profiles of talented local musicians.
“Happy and Glorious used songs from across the decades which The Queen is known to enjoy. Performers included David Morris, Jenny Saunders, Sarah Stephens, Gloria Pryce, Jak Skelly, the Enderby band, along with local choirs The Semper Singers and Fosse Singers. The Lord Lieutenant's Young Artist of the Year - Alexander Love - performed a ballet which he choreographed himself and comedy was provided by Elaine Pantling in the guise of Beryl Reid.”
Happy and Glorious was devised and written by Dave, artistically directed by Ed Stagg and with musical direction from Emma Trounson.
The event was compered by BBC Radio Leicester’s Martin Ballard and Monica Winfield.
LOROS Fundraiser Clare Harwood said: “Applause always stage such wonderful productions, including the annual LOROS Christmas Concert, and Happy and Glorious was no exception.”
The show opened with a reading of a letter from The Queen wishing them luck for the performance, followed by The National Anthem and a variety of talented local acts, including The Enderby Band and The De Montfort University Gospel Choir.
“The idea of promoting local talent and supporting local charities is admirable and LOROS are always incredibly grateful to be supported by the Applause team,” added Clare.
“The money raised at this event could pay for the care of an inpatient for a 6 day stay at the Hospice, which is incredible.”
Money raised from Happy and Glorious was split between LOROS and Memphys.
