A mother is supporting this year’s LOROS Winter Raffle by telling how her young daughter was able to spend one last Christmas with her terminally ill great-grandmother thanks to the Hospice.

Emily Glanville’s grandma, Theresa, was on the LOROS Ward last Christmas after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Thanks to the friendly staff at the Hospice, Emily said that she and four-year-old Alexa were able to spend special time with Theresa, or ‘GG’ as they called her during their last Christmas together.

Emily, 27, of Broughton Astley, said: “Christmas is always going to be a particularly hard time when somebody you love is poorly, especially when GG loved Christmas as much as she did but as soon as we walked through the doors at LOROS, it felt like Christmas.

“We visited GG on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and it felt like our festive home from home.”

Alt textEmily has shared her experience of LOROS to help promote this year’s Winter Raffle, which gives people the opportunity to win a massive £10,000.

”It was those personal touches at LOROS which make all the difference,” added Emily.

“The ward was full of beautiful decorations and cards, with Christmas trees dotted all over the place.

“The nurses remembered us and they asked Alexa if Santa had brought her the milkshake maker she wanted; it was so nice that they remembered the conversation we’d all had.”

Emily said she knew it would be the last Christmas they all spent together but thanks to LOROS, ‘GG was able to watch Alexa play again’.

Sadly, ‘GG’ died on 7th January this year.

“Cancer had taken those precious moments away for GG but when we were at LOROS, even if it was for a short space of time, we were able to make such valuable memories with her that Alexa will treasure forever,” she said.

People have until this Sunday (3rd December) to play the LOROS Winter Raffle and be in with the chance of being £10,000 better off in time for Christmas.

Emily said: “Christmas wishes from me and Alexa and the very best of luck to all of those who are playing.”

Raffle tickets can be bought from any of the LOROS shops, or from the Hospice, or by calling: (0116) 231 8430.
