A group of nurses are set to take on the biggest Tower Run in the East Midlands

An event which has attracted runners worldwide returns for its third year on Saturday 10th March.

Set in the city’s iconic St George’s Tower, where runners - or walkers - climb the 351 steps to victory.

It’s the largest Tower Run in the East Midlands, enticing hundreds of fundraisers and fitness fanatics alike to don their running shoes and do something amazing for LOROS.

Jo Potts, a staff nurse who works in the Day Therapy Unit at LOROS fancies her chances this year; she’ll be tackling the tower with a group of nurses from LOROS who are aptly named ‘The Day Therapy Dreamers.’

“Initially I thought 351 steps would be easy, until I ran up my own stairs at home. I found that after running up and down six times, a total of 66 steps, I felt like I needed oxygen,” she said. “So this is definitely going to be a challenge for me, hence why we’re called ‘The Day Therapy Dreamers’!

“I joined LOROS back in 1988 after working as a nurse in a hospital. I feel very humbled to be here and I want to do all I can to ensure that patients continue to receive the support and care they need.”

LOROS Events Lead, Andrew Ward said: “Last year was such a successful year, but 2018 is already going to be our biggest event yet. We have a huge range of ages and abilities taking part, all competing against each other to get to the top.

“What’s really great about this challenge is that participants set the pace and whether you’re eight or 80 it’s a great way to test your physical ability while doing something amazing for LOROS.”

As a congratulations for their hard work, all finishers will receive a medal and a glass of Prosecco. Under 18’s get a soft drink to go with their medal at the finish line while taking in the stunning views of the city.

Entry is £17 to take part or free to those who pledge to raise £50 in aid of LOROS Hospice.
