What if you had a week left to live, would those close to you know your wishes? Dying Matters Awareness Week runs from 14th – 20th May and raises awareness of dying, death and bereavement.

Talking about death may not be easy, so as part of Dying Matters Week, LOROS will be giving everyone, including hospices, their patients, carers and families an opportunity to talk about dying.

‘Dying to Talk’ sessions are to help people with how to start those important conversations about death and dying. It’s a free event to discuss how to support those that are bereaved, helping those facing bereavement or approaching the end of life.

Maggie Fay, Practice Educator at LOROS Hospice said: “The sessions are designed to encourage people to talk more openly about their end of life wishes, and also to have those conversations with people closest to them.

“If we talk about death it becomes less frightening, and becomes a normal part of life. “We want to help people have honest discussions about what matters to them at their end of life and make life easier for those that are left behind,”

“A monster in the light is usually better faced than a monster unseen in the shadows.” added Maggie.

The Dying to Talk sessions are being held at - Tuesday 15th - Friday 18th May 10am – 3pm Tuesday 15th May - Outside Specsavers in Oakham Wednesday 16th May - At our Pullman Road shop in Wigston Thursday 17th May - Market Square in Hinckley Friday 18th May - Humberstone Gate in Leicester City Centre

For those that use social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram etc.) there will also be information about how you can ensure your accounts and their content are dealt with after you die.

A free, reusable, goody bag will be given to the first 50 people that drop-in to our Dying to Talk sessions each day.

You will also be able to find out about our free will writing service that is running throughout May.
