LOROS Hospice Volunteers invited to Buckingham Palace for Queen’s Garden Party

Every summer Her Majesty The Queen hosts a series of Garden Parties to celebrate people who have made a positive impact in their communities.

Guests are nominated by their peers as recognition and commendation of their achievements. LOROS were delighted to receive two invites to honour those who have dedicated much of their lives to the charity.

One of those chosen was Kathleen Wade, a volunteer at the Hospice for nearly 30 years and a true ambassador for LOROS.

Accompanying Kathleen was Claire Watson, who was invited to attend in her dad’s absence. Claire’s dad, Ray Massey, had been a volunteer for 26 years for LOROS and died a few weeks ago on the ward.

Claire Watson spoke of her time at the Palace on Tuesday: “My dad had received his invitation and was so looking forward to attending, so it was with great sadness and pride that I was able to go to represent him.

“It was truly a memorable day with the sun shining and the music playing from the Guard’s Band. The Queen mingled amongst guests looking as sprightly and wonderful as ever. “Both my dad and Kathleen deserve a huge thank you for their efforts, loyalty, dedication and an amazing 56 years’ service between them.”

Over the course of each year, The Queen welcomes over 30,000 guests to spend a relaxed summer afternoon in the beautiful gardens of Buckingham Palace or the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

During the parties around 27,000 cups of tea are served, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are devoured, so we’re sure Kathleen and Claire had a wonderful time!
