More than one hundred people braved the weather to run the Leicester marathon and half marathon for LOROS Hospice on Sunday 14th October.

The runners battled through high winds and pouring rain to complete the course.

Laura Betts, Fundraising manager at LOROS, said: “It was an absolute deluge! Everyone was soaked to the skin, yet the runners were smiling through it all.

“There’s always massive camaraderie but I think it being so soggy out there made it even more so this year.

“Despite the weather the runners’ efforts have really paid off – we’re still counting but estimate they’ve raised more than £30,000 to support the hospice, which is magnificent.”

Nearly 4,000 runnners entered the race, with competitors travelling from as far as Canada, Australia and the USA to take part.

The race was supported by 300 LOROS volunteer marshals offering help to runners along the course including handing out water, bananas and their all important medals at the end.

Laura added: “This is my seventh year and I don’t even run but I was still in tears watching people finish. It gets me every time.”
