LOROS is delighted to be welcoming LOROS Local back to the Hospice after it was damaged earlier this month

The mobile resource centre, known as LOROS Local was targeted on 8th October, at the start of the most important week in the Hospice’s calendar, Hospice Care Week 8th – 14th October. Thieves targeted the vehicle while it was parked on site, devastating the Hospice, and causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

It had a huge impact on planned events that were scheduled across the city, county and Rutland, for community awareness raising, and complementary therapy appointments that had been arranged for patients and carers out in the community.

There was an outpour of generosity from well-wishers and donations to support the Hospice to fund the repairs. These repairs have cost in the region of £3,000 which includes added security measures.

Thanks to the tremendous support, LOROS Local is now back on the road and will be heading out into the community next week.

Danielle Smeeton, Community Outreach Lead said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the generous response by the public. Not just in donations, but in their kind words and support for the work we do.

“We’d like to thank our patients and families for their patience, in changing complimentary therapy appointments, while LOROS Local has been off the road. We’d also like to thank our partner organisations for their understanding in supporting us, to reschedule venues for the vehicle.

“We’re so pleased that we’ve been able to get LOROS Local back in time to celebrate our Occupational Health Week, which is next week. Our teams will be out and about again in the community, visiting Melton Mowbray, Ashby, Hinckley, Humberstone Gate and Belgrave Commercial Centre.”

Community Engagement Lead, Jackie McBlain said: “Looking forward, we are excited to be showcasing LOROS Local at the national Hospice UK conference in Telford, at the end of November.”
