LOROS takes ownership of Peppercorns cafes

LOROS Hospice has bought Peppercorns two cafes, located in the village of Anstey and in Abbey Park in Leicester.

The charity is now running the two cafes in addition to its mobile coffee shop, Care for a Drink, which is currently based at Bradgate Park's Hunt’s Hill car park at weekends.

LOROS?has used the sale of donated land and property assets to fund the purchase of Peppercorns. Donations from supporters were not used in this transaction.

Caroline Baker, LOROS director of income generation and business development, said: "Like many charities, Covid-19 has had a significant impact on LOROS’ income.

"With fundraising events cancelled and charity shops closed it is even more important that we find alternative sources of income in addition to our traditional ways of generating funds to support our patient care and safeguard the future.

"The cafes are well-run, well-loved enterprises which sit at the heart of their communities, much as LOROS does. We will continue to run them as cafes, using the profits to fund our vital work supporting patients and their families."

The charity is planning to give the cafes a 'refresh' with a new colour scheme and signage, but will be keeping the name.

"Peppercorns is well-loved – like LOROS! We want to build on that rather than replace it. The emphasis will be on home-made, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options available."

Peppercorns at Anstey and Abbey Park are both now open for indoor dining, following the easing of restrictions on Monday 17th May.
