Local charities working in partnership for the benefit of those they serve in the East Midlands.

Two local charities have recently joined forces to overcome challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Back in 2019, Muscular Dystrophy (MD) Support Centre (based in Coventry) opened a satellite clinic location in Loughborough in order to bring their specialised physical therapies for people with MD closer to those living in the East Midlands.

Unfortunately, the impact of the Covid-19pandemic quickly left the charity without access to its East Midlands site - forcing its service users to travel to Coventry, or simply to stop receiving the crucial face-to-face physical therapy that they need.

A new partnership between Leicester’s LOROS Hospice and the MD Support Centre has now facilitated the return of free, tailored physical therapy and support for people living with MD to the East Midlands Region.

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with LOROS Hospice and to have found a new home for our East Midlands Satellite Clinic. We are on a mission to transform and expand access to physical therapies for people with MD across the Midlands – and to be able to once again, provide face-to-face physical therapies here in the East Midlands is incredibly exciting. We are grateful to the LOROS team for allowing us to use their state-of-the-art facilities and for the impact that this partnership will have on people with muscular dystrophy in the region”, said MD Support Centre’s Executive Director, Sarah Ann Moore.

LOROS Chief Executive John Knight adds: “This collaboration is so positive, LOROS Hospice is thrilled to be working with the MD Support Centre. It’s a clear example of how voluntary sector organisations are increasingly working in partnership to find efficiencies and allegiances in a fast changing world. We’re so pleased to be able to help these patients access the care and support they need, closer to home.”
