Rebecca Iley, whose dad, grandma and grandad were cared for at LOROS, volunteers as a lottery collector. She visits 14 people on her round who play the LOROS lottery and pay by cash each month.
Rebecca says: “I know everyone on my round pretty well now and love them all to bits. They’re lovely people and we have a real catch up when I call in to collect their money. Some of the families, I know so well and have watched their children and grandchildren grow up. I’m often there nearly an hour, chatting! We exchange cards at Christmas too.
I know from my family’s experience how brilliant the care is, I tell them about it, that it’s not a frightening place but a calming and friendly one.
“They call me the LOROS lady, and often ask me about what’s going on at the hospice. Sometimes they might ask about Day Therapy or other services and, as I know from my family’s experience how brilliant the care is, I tell them about it, that it’s not a frightening place but a calming and friendly one.
“Quite a lot of lottery players like to pay cash so it’s nice to do this. They tell me if they win too. Often it’s just ten pounds but there’s a weekly prize of £2,000 so you never know!
“There used to be some quite elderly people on my round and I think I was one of the few people they saw. It’s nice to be the face of LOROS for them.”
