LOROS launches Centre for Excellence

1 Nov 2022

LOROS is launching a new initiative to improve the end of life care for patients and their families.

The LOROS Centre for Excellence will lead research in palliative and end of life care and apply this learning through its education and training programmes to improve care.

It will develop a programme of research to lead improvements in symptom management, quality of life, services for patients and health inequalities. Bringing healthcare services together, it will offer an approach towards care, learning and leadership that will translate research and sector knowledge into actual practice.

Professor Christina Faull, LOROS Consultant in Palliative Medicine and Research Lead, said: “Our ambition is to be at the forefront of hospice research in the UK. We will undertake work that improves care, is of local importance and has national and international impact, in partnership with patients, families and communities in Leicester, Leicester and Rutland. We will facilitate debate and advocate for change through influencing policy and key decision makers.”

The Centre for Excellence will elevate the standing of LOROS as an academic and clinical hub for innovation and excellent practice in end of life care, and further strengthen its relationship with the University of Leicester.

The LOROS Centre for Excellence officially launched on the 28th October with a virtual overview of the unit as well as presentations from national and global leaders with expertise in palliative and end of life care research, translation of research into practice, patient and public involvement.
