On Sunday 30th October, over 2,500 runners took to the streets of the city in the Run Leicester Festival.

This year runners had the choice of two routes, the Half Marathon (13.1 miles) or the 10k route. Both routes began at Victoria Park taking runners on a tour of Leicester’s city centre streets and beautiful open parks before returning to New Walk which, with its gradual ascent, was the real test for our runners! With plenty of entertainment on the way including dancers and a rock choir, the event was truly incredible.

The runners who participated were inspiring. The fastest runner completed the 10k in 31 minutes and the Half Marathon in an astonishing 1 hour and 6 minutes. Coming in slightly later than that was LOROS Chief Executive, Rob Parkinson, who ran the Half Marathon on behalf of the Hospice, in a respectable 2 hours and 2 minutes.

After finishing Rob said: “It was amazing. Everybody has organised the event so well and the LOROS team, marshals and volunteers have all done a brilliant job in making it such a fantastic day. It has been amazing to see so many people raising money for LOROS.”

Overall, over £40,000 was raised for LOROS Hospice with much more raised for other charities across the country.

Laura Betts, LOROS Fundraising Manager said: “It’s been a really difficult time for charities over the last few years with the global pandemic and it is still really difficult now due to the cost of living crisis. Fundraisers like this are really important to our charity.”

Keep an eye out as we will soon be launching our 2023 event, another year of the iconic, high-energy Run Leicester Festival!
