LOROS receives 'Tree of Trees'

On Friday 2nd December, we were delighted to take ownership of our ‘Tree of Trees’, one of just five organisations across Leicestershire to receive one of The Queen’s Green Canopy trees which were part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September, this was even more momentous as we reflected on Her Majesty’s admirable reign of 70 years. The Tree of Trees is symbolic to LOROS particularly as when Queen Elizabeth II passed away, we placed ribbons on our memory tree in remembrance of her. LOROS offered supporters the opportunity to send their condolences and reflect on the Queen’s incredible reign.

The Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Mike Kapur, joined us in our event to plant the tree in the LOROS gardens. The Lord Lieutenant said: “I was asked to nominate five deserving organisations, which was difficult to do, but I felt that LOROS was certainly well deserving of receiving one of the trees as it is such a beloved charity across the City and County”.

Rob Parkinson, LOROS CEO, said: “On behalf of all of us at LOROS, I’d like to say how delighted we are to be receiving one of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee ‘Tree of Trees’.

“As one of only a handful of organisations to be chosen, it’s an immensely proud moment for the hospice and this recognition will be warmly welcomed by the whole of our community.”

The tree was planted using the spade used to originally cut the first turf when the building of LOROS Hospice commenced back in 1984.

Thank you to all of the supporters and guests that attended our event and supported us in celebrating this significant event.
