A Leicester woman is encouraging people to leave a gift in their Will to help support their local hospice.
Sue Steel from Groby is still so grateful for the care and support her Dad, Pip, received at LOROS ten years ago, she’s changed her Will to leave the charity a legacy.
Sue said: “Back in 2014, my Dad was diagnosed with throat cancer at a very late stage and quickly transferred to LOROS Hospice. It was the best thing that could have happened in the circumstances. Thanks to LOROS we had six weeks together before he sadly died and he was so well cared for in that time.
“I remember one day towards the end, the nurses wrapped him in blankets and pushed his bed out into the courtyard so he could hear the Salvation Army band playing carols at a Christmas service. It was beautiful and I knew I’d done right by him.
“I want everyone to have the care and treatment my father had. His legacy lives on through me and I know he would want to help others as he was helped by LOROS.”
LOROS is partnering with five local solicitors to offer free Will writing clinics at the Hospice from 24th-28th March 2025. These clinics provide a safe and confidential space to discuss wishes and create a simple Will or amend an existing one for free.
Jen Leach, Legacy Lead at LOROS said: “We understand that writing or changing your Will is a significant personal decision, so our Will writing clinics are designed to help make that a little easier. Obviously, no-one is under any obligation to donate or leave us a gift, but any support will be very gratefully received.
“With NHS funding covering just 20% of our costs, we are very reliant on our supporters for help.
“LOROS has been caring for patients and families for 40 years. This would not have been possible without the amazing support of our local community, and especially those who have given LOROS a gift in their Will.”
